Following the recent discovery that a barn owl has been hunting in the fields around our wildlife ponds, we’ve joined forces with the rangers at Conkers to install a barn owl box to encourage roosting.
Numbers of barn owls have plummeted in the UK since the 1930s and it is currently a schedule 1 species making it an offence to intentionally or recklessly disturb barn owls or an active nest, all in the effort of increasing numbers and so far it is working.
Twycross Zoo was therefore very excited to discover a barn own hunting in our Wildlife Ponds. On hearing the news, the rangers at Conkers quickly volunteered to install a barn owl box in the area the barn owls been frequenting, in the hopes it will encourage roosting.
We’ll keep you updated on sightings and activity.
